This article walks you through the signup and onboarding process so you know exactly what to expect before you land on your dashboard for the first time.
The whole thing takes about 5 minutes. By the end, ContentMonk will have analyzed your brand and set up your workspace based on what you want to focus on first.
Creating your account
Go to contentmonk.io and click 'Try for Free'. Enter your email address and click 'Continue with email', or sign up with Google if you prefer.
If you continue with email, you'll be asked to fill in your first name, last name, and a password. Check the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy box and click 'Create account'.
Tell us about yourself
The first onboarding step asks whether you're an In-house team or an Agency.
In-house is for companies and creators managing their own brand. If you select this, you'll fill in your company name, website, and country. ContentMonk uses your website to analyze your brand and tailor the experience, and your country for keyword tracking and search volume data.
Agency is for teams managing content and visibility across multiple client brands. If you select Agency, you'll enter your agency name and website. You'll then get an additional step to set up your first client brand before moving forward.
Setting up a client brand (Agency only)
If you selected Agency, Step 2 asks you to set up one of the client brands you're working with.
Enter the client's brand URL, brand name, default location, and timezone.
ContentMonk analyzes the client's site to tailor the research to their brand, not yours. You can add more client brands later - this just gets the first one set up.
If you want to skip this and have ContentMonk research your agency instead, click 'Skip - research my agency instead' at the bottom.
What do you want to do first?
This is where the onboarding splits into two paths. Both features are included in every plan - this just determines what ContentMonk sets up for you first.
Track AI Visibility sets up AI monitoring for your brand. ContentMonk will suggest topics and prompts to track, run them through 4 AI models, and give you an AI Analytics Audit Report before you even enter the product.
Create new content sets up your SEO and content foundation. ContentMonk will identify your competitors, analyze the competitive landscape, and surface content opportunities based on SEO gap analysis.
You can explore everything later regardless of what you pick here!
AI Visibility path
If you chose Track AI Visibility, you'll go through two steps before ContentMonk runs its first analysis.
Review Topics
ContentMonk analyzes your website and suggests topics your customers would ask AI about. You'll see 5 topics, with one marked as Recommended.
Select the topics most relevant to your business. You can deselect any that don't fit and add custom topics if you want something more specific. Click 'Next' when you're happy with the selection.
Review Prompts
Based on your selected topics, ContentMonk suggests prompts - the actual questions people are asking AI assistants. You'll see them grouped by topic, with one pre-selected per topic.
You can select more prompts from each topic group - up to 5 per topic - or add custom prompts if you have specific queries in mind. The button at the bottom says 'Get Your AEO Report', which kicks off the analysis.
AI Visibility analysis
ContentMonk now queries ChatGPT, Claude, Google AI Overview, and Perplexity across all your selected prompts. This usually takes about a minute.
Your AI Analytics Audit Report
Once the analysis is done, you'll see a preview of your AI Analytics Audit Report before you even pick a plan.
The report shows your Industry Ranking - how your brand compares to competitors across AI search engines - with visibility percentage, average position, and sentiment for each brand.
Below that you'll find Top Sources (the domains AI models are citing for your prompts), Recent AI Answers mentioning your brand, and a list of opportunities to improve your AI visibility.
This gives you a real picture of where you stand before committing to anything.
Content Creation path
If you chose Create new content, you'll go through a different setup focused on SEO and content opportunities.
Who are your best competitors?
ContentMonk analyzes your industry and suggests competitors. You can select up to 3 during onboarding - you can add more later depending on your plan.
Browse the suggested list and select the ones most relevant to you. If you don't see a competitor you want to track, use the 'Add custom competitor' field at the bottom to add them manually with their domain.
Click 'Next' when you're done.
Researching your competitive landscape
ContentMonk now analyzes your competitors' SEO data to find content opportunities. This usually takes about a minute.
Content opportunities report
When the research is done, you'll see a content opportunities report based on your competitors' data.
The report includes an Industry Ranking based on Google organic search, an SEO Gaps section showing keywords your competitors rank for but you don't, New Content Opportunities - articles you could create to close those gaps - and Content
Updates for existing pages you could improve to rank higher.
Same as with the AI Visibility report, you get a real picture of the opportunity before picking a plan.
Choose your plan
After your report, you'll see the pricing page. ContentMonk offers three plans - Starter, Pro, and Scale - with monthly and yearly billing options. Yearly saves 15%.
Select a plan and click 'Start free trial'. You'll be taken to the payment page where you enter your card details. You won't be charged until the 7-day trial ends, and you'll get a reminder 2 days before.
Your dashboard
After completing payment, ContentMonk prepares your personalized dashboard.
Once it's ready, you'll see a welcome modal with a short product walkthrough video. Watch it or click 'Let me crush it' to go straight to your dashboard.
Where you land depends on the path you chose during onboarding. If you chose Track AI Visibility, you'll land on the AI Visibility Overview with your first data already populating. If you chose Create new content, you'll land on Content Editorial with shortcuts to start writing based on the opportunities ContentMonk found.
At the top of the screen you'll also see a banner inviting you to book a free onboarding call with the CEO - worth doing if you want help getting the most out of ContentMonk from day one.
